Colossal’s “Woolly Mouse”—Science or Jurassic Marketing?

So, Colossal Biosciences just dropped a “woolly mouse”—a genetically tweaked critter engineered to express traits from a woolly mammoth. This is them flexing their progress toward “de-extinction,” but let’s be honest—this thing ain’t sniffing around the tundra anytime soon.

Here’s my take: the tech is cool, sure. CRISPR and synthetic biology are rewriting what’s possible. But this has the same smell as crypto a few years back—flashy demos, vague promises, and VC dollars chasing the dream of playing God. We’re a long way from ethical clarity, let alone practical application.

My peeps in biotech or edge research—keep your heads on straight. There’s opportunity here, but don’t lose sight of the real questions: Who’s funding this? Who’s owning the data? And what happens when we start bringing back things we barely understood the first time around?

Besides, I can’t let my little girl see this thing! We already have too many pets – and Magic will surely try to have this for dinner…..and then it will be me doing the crying!
